Test Road Sign 1

“There are lots of hazards out there, there are lots of junctions out there, lots of roundabouts. Lots of things that you need to deal with as you’re driving along.

Not everyone has got a big road sign to tell you about it. So, as you’re driving along, it’s really, really important to look ahead, look at the road layout, look what the other road users are doing and see what’s going on before you get to it.

Having said that, you will find lots of road signs out there and it’s improtatnt that you see the road sign first of all.

As you’re driving along, look way into the distance. If you can see a shape on the end of a pole, that’s probably a road sign. Even if you can’t identify the shape of it, so you know or suspect there’s something ahead that I’m going to have to deal with.

As you get closer, you will then appreciate what shape it is. So, if it’s a warning triangle , you know it’s warning you of something. If it’s a rectangle sign, you know it’s tellling you some information. If it’s a circular sign with a red ring around it, you know it’s telling you not to do something. If it’s a circular sign with a blue background, it’s telling you you must do something.

So, straight away you know there’s something that you need to address and that’s even before you’ve worked out what the sign is. So, look well into the distance, look out for a sign on the end of a pole, then identify what the shape is to confirm what sort of a sign it is. Then, as you get in closer, you’ll see exactly what the sign is. And that sign is not there for the fun of it, it’s there because there’s somethign significant that you need to deal with very soon, very quickly ahead of oyu.

So, let’s have a couple of road signs, let’s see how well you could do.

The first sign is in consideration of a two-way street. Okay, so there’s a sign. There are two signs. The two-way street arrows in sign A are running from left to the right and the two-way street signs in sign B are vertical, going from top to bottom. The question is what do they mean?

Well, if you rememebr on other road signs where you have a line going from top to bottom or wherever the road that you’re driving along. So in A, those signs are going from left to right. So that means we’re going to meet up with a road running from left to right, which is a two-way street.

The reason that you’re being told that is because you’re on a one-way street. Otherwise, they won’t bother telling you.

The road sign on B is telling you that again, we must surely be on a one-way street now and, ahead of us, is a two-way street. So you’ve got to then consider about lane position, where you are, what everybody esle is doing and you can anticipate oncoming traffic in road sign B and two-way traffic coming across you att the next junction, next crossroads, the next T-junction or whatever.

So, that’s one example and if you get that wrong, you will have a very bad day. Oka,y so there we are. That’s one for you to look at. If you’ve got other road signs which you think are worth mentioning, put them in the comments. Thanks for watching.”
