“Ask the examiner to repeat anything that you’re not sure of. In one of the driving test myths videos, I confirm that you wouldn’t fail a driving test if you simply took a wrong turn. Though several wrong turns might ring alarm bells with the examiner who might interpret that as being unsafe.
So the examiner will give you instructions for turns in good time. Whilst concentrating and focsuing on your driving, it may well be that you do actually miss what the examiner has just said, so simply ask them to repeat the instruction again.
Similarly, if you don’t understand the direction or any instruction from the examiner, ask for it to be repeated. I take an advanced driving re-test every 3 or 4 years. I find it really helps if I repeat the directions out loud to myself. In this way, I’ve heard the instructions from the examiner, then I’ve repeated it myself and heard it with my own voice and I’ve not taken a wrong turn yet, so maybe try that.
In any event, if you get directions or anything wrong, try and keep calm. Don’t get flustered, keep the focus on your driving being safe and, as with that driving test myth, it really does not matter a great deal if you make a wrong turn but do it safely.
But, not into an active bus lane, or a no left or right turn, or no entry or anything like that.”
