“Here we have some acronyms. Acronyms are wonderful. They occur in all walks of life, from the supermarket BOGOF – Buy One Get One Free to the PIN, where you go to the cash point and put your digits in.

In the car, there are some very useful acronyms and so we’re going to have a look at a few now.

One of the first ones that you might know is ABS. It was originally invented by the German company Bosch, so that it was known as anti-blocker system. We know it as ABS, anti-lock braking system. So that’s one of the many that you will know.

Let’s have a consideration of some others. It’s importnat to know which of these apply to your car. If these are technical things or safety things, you need to understand how your car works, don’t you really? Certainly with ABS, you need to know how it works. If you go into an emergency stop, for example, what you’re likely to experience so that you don’t panic.”
