What is the Trainee Licence?

“The Trainee Licence allows you to work as a driving instructor after you have completed a minimum of 40 hours of training.

Whilst on your trainee licence, you can teach clients and practise your techniques, whilst taking further training working towards taking your Part 3 test.

You must display your trainee licence at all times whilst you are teaching for reward.

If you do not complete a further 20 hours of training within the first 3 months, or you break any other rules of the trainee licence, DVSA could take it away.

The aim of the trainee licence is to build enough experience to allow you to pass your Part 3 test on the first attempt.”
