Turning Right - Position

“After checking your mirrors and signalling, you need to make sure that you’re in a good road position for the turn.

For a basic right turn, you will normally move to a position of the centre of the road or in a dedicated right turn lane. Where there is a white lane in the centre, keep just to the left of the line.

By moving to a position that is just left of the centre of the road, you allow space for other vehicles to pass on your left. If the road is not wide enough to allow others to pass, maintain your normal road position before turning. The key points are:

– Position near to the centre of the road or dedicated turn lane.
– Positioning near the centre allows others to pass to your left.
– If the road is not wide enough for others to pass on the left, keep your normal road position.”
