“We’re back on the road again and we’ve looked ahead. We can see a road sign. We can see that it’s triangular. It’s a warning triangle. We might have to change speed or direction. There’s something ahead that we need to deal with in this example. It’s what’s called a staggered junction.
We know what a crossroads is. That’s with a road to the left and to the right at the same place. This is called staggered because you get one junction to one side and shortly afterwards a junction to the other one, so it’s called a staggered one.
It’s not quite got itself sorted so, in this instance, you’ve got potential for traffic in front of you slowing down to go into the junction to the left and, straight after that, there’s a potential for some traffic to be wanting to turn to the right.
You’ve also got the potential for traffic emerging from the junction to the left and, shortly afterwards, traffic emerging from the right. There’s lots going on. What’s happening behind? You might well have to change speed or direction. What’s happening behind will help you decide what you can do.”
