“I’ve talked previously about the process that you’ll encounter when you take your theory test. Well, a few years ago, I was a mystery shopper. A mystery shopper is someone who goes to restaurants, pubs, bars, hotels or whatever, pretending to be a shopper and see how it goes. Then you write a report for the company and hopefully they put things right and check things are fine.
A few years ago, I was a mystery shopper for Pearsons, the people who do the theory test. So I was given a fake ID and a fake driving licence and a fake booking and I went to the local test centre to do a theory test.
So I went there, I got all my possessiosn and my phone in my bag and put them in a locker and then went to sit the theory test in the little booth with computer, but, as the mystery shopper, I’d been asked to hide a second mobile phone and I’d hid that in my sock and, after a few minutes, my instructions were to access the phone and google some information, as if I was cheating, to find some answers for the theory test.
So I very carefully, very cleverly, got the mobile phone from out of my sock and got it in front of me, very carefully, and started Googling to answer some of the questions that lasted for about 30 seconds, until I got a polite little tap on my shoulder and was quietly, and nicely, asked to leave.
So I was escorted off the premises and told, in no uncertain terms, that’s not the way to pass your theory test. The way to pass your theory test is to do some studying, know your stuff and then you’ll be fine. So don’t try cheating because it won’t work.”
