Learning to drive in Gloucester
The city of Gloucester is a great place when it comes to learning to drive. On the eastern bank of the river Severn, Gloucester’s busy streets and winding rural roads are set to make you a real all-rounder.
Starting out is often the hardest and scariest bit of driving, but Gloucester has plenty of quiet, residential areas where you can get used to life behind the wheel. Matson is one of several good places to visit for first-time learners. Red Well Road, for example, is wide with plenty of straight stretches on which you can get used to moving off and stopping. There’s the odd parked car too, so it’s a good place to return to when you’re practising parallel parking.
Gloucester has plenty of rural roads which can be tricky for learners. They’re often set at the national speed limit, which encourages fast driving. But the blind corners and hidden dips require caution, so the national speed limit isn’t always the best speed to do on these roads! With the Cotswolds to the east, there are plenty of country roads to practise your skills on. Your instructor will help you tackle these narrow, unpredictable roads safely. It’ll all be great prep for the pressure of your practical driving test.
If you’re looking for dual carriageway practice, the A40 is ideal. It crosses the Severn and skirts the north side of the city. The A340 is another option. It has some daunting junctions where it meets Bristol Road and later Cole Avenue. These junctions have three, even four lanes to choose from, depending upon which approach you’re taking. If you can navigate these with ease then you’ll be well placed to nail your test!

* The Test Pass Guarantee is quite simple:
– you must have had a least our 10 hour package of lessons with one of our instructors;
– you must be able show you have watched all of the videos in our learning to drive online course;
– you must provide your test fail report – dated within the last 14 days;
– you must provide your bank details so we can pay you the value of the test within 14 days of making us of the guarantee.
– the instructor must agree that you are at a test ready standard.
*^ Guaranteed Pass – Unlimited Course:
– you must have had a least the 40 hour package of lessons with one of our instructors;
– additional lessons are provided and limited to 4 hours following a test fail and before a resit;
– you must be able show you have watched all of the videos in our learning to drive online course;
– you must provide your test fail report – dated within the last 14 days;
– you must provide your bank details so we can pay you the value of the test within 14 days of making us of the guarantee.
^ The instructor’s decision on test readiness is final and reserves the right to refuse use of the car for the day of the test.
If this occurs, the hours reserved for the day of the test will be used to continue lessons until the hours have been used up.
It would then be your responsibility to arrange and pay for the use of the instructor’s car for the day of the test.
With all of our courses, we act as an agent on your behalf. We will process the fee and take payment for the course. We will pass the full amount of the lessons for the course on to instructor minus our administration fee of (£50) and test fees.
