“Okay, this sign, it’s got the word Ford on it. Do you know what the word Ford means?
It’s not a make of car. This means water crossing uh a road and it looks like a flooded bit of road, but it’s possibly a river or a stream going across the road. So, you’ve been through the ford. I hope you’ve been through slowly.
You’ve been through carefully. you’ve been in a low gear to slow speed and the car hasn’t stalled in the middle of the river or stream. So, when you’ve got out of the Ford, what we’re now looking at is testing your brakes. Your brakes depend on friction to slow the car down. And if they’ve all covered in water for the last 50 50 seconds or so, they’re going to be very slippery.
So, test your brakes. Check what’s behind first before you put your brakes on. Don’t put them on fiercely. Just enough for you to to know that the brakes are working fine.”
