Chevrons Road Sign

“So you’re probably on a rural road again and you’ve spotted some signs occasionally for a sharp bend to the left or sharp bend to the right. This particular bend ahead has not only got those, but it’s got these black and white chevrons.

A chevron is like an arrow. It’s pointing you to the direction that you need to go to negotiate this corner.

Why have they bothered to put this there? They’ve spent thousands of pounds pointing these black and white signs on the road on this particular corner and that’s because this is a significantly sharper corner than expected on this road, or more than it actually looks.

You can easily get caught out if you look at a corner and you think it’s okay and then you find it’s a lot sharper, these chevrons are telling you that this is a signifcantly sharp bend. So, you’ll need to get that speed right down.

Look where the bend is, look where the road goes, check behind to make sure that when slowing down, you’re doing so with due regard to traffic behind you. Take it slow.”
