“This manouevre might be tested during your driving test, but your main reason for learning it is that after you have passed your test, you’ll often have to move out from tight situations. When moving out at an angle, you need to pay particular attention to traffic approaching from both the front and behind.
From the front, because you may swing into its path. From behind, because you willl be moving out more slowly than normal and other cars will catch up quickly. Complete your Prepare, Observe and Move routine and move off very slowly.
You will need to steer briskly, both to pull out past the obstruction and to straighten up. As part of your observation, make a second glance back as soon as you have started steering. Use clutch control to keep the car very slow, by holding the gas pedal still and gently moving the clutch up and down.
You only need slight movement of a few millimetres each way. Only bring the clutch up fully, as you straighten up to drive away.
